Bolgheri is in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci in the centre of the Maremma Livornese area, on the lower foothills of the Colline Metallifere.
It is a picturesque village that developed around a medieval castle standing on a small rise in the ground. The cypress tree-lined road to it is famous and it is known as “Viale dei Cipressi”. Bolgheri is also renowned for its nature reserve, which spans approximately 500 hectares. It was the first private nature reserve in Italy and it has had WWF recognition since 1968.
In addition, Bolgheri is well known for the exceptional red wines that are made in the area.
Some of the most famous are Sassicaia and the many wines produced by Tenuta dell’Ornellaia and Tenuta Guado al Tasso.
